Are we becoming reactive instead of proactive thanks to AI?
With AI increasingly embedded in every aspect of our work and life, we’re at a crossroads. Efficient AI provides autonomy and proactivity in our systems and bots, but are we using it to its full potential?
It’s like choosing between a beautiful classic sofa 🛋️ and a modern, versatile chair 🪑. The sofa is inviting, cozy, and reactive: you sit back and watch life go by. But the chair, while not as plush, can be used in multiple ways, adapting to different needs.
Honestly, when I see someone (or worse, an entire team) comfortably settled into that reactive armchair, the first thing I want to do is throw it out the window 🪂. Why? Because I always want more. More action, more ideas, more impact. And that old armchair? It’s just taking up space.
💥 And here’s the thing: if we’re not constantly pushing ourselves a little outside the comfort zone, we risk falling into inertia. At Emburse, we embrace the value of Exceed, aiming to go beyond what’s expected, to deliver more, create more, and challenge ourselves to think bigger. I don’t understand (or accept) any other way of thinking. It’s not just about being efficient or ticking off tasks; it’s about being ambitious with ourselves, digging deeper, and creating real impact. That’s how we stay alive, excited, and truly engaged with what we do.
Think about coding assistants like Copilot. Today, they can generate unit tests quickly and accurately. Great, right? But here’s the risk: if a developer stays on the “sofa,” they just accept the generated test and move on to the next ticket. Reactive, efficient, and… replaceable.
On the other hand, the “chair” developer uses that freed-up time to go deeper:
🔍 Reviewing the module’s architecture: Can it be simplified or optimized?
🛠️ Spotting repetitive patterns: Can they create reusable utilities?
🧪 Analyzing test coverage: Are critical areas still untested?
🚀 Proposing performance improvements: Can queries or functions be refined?
In many companies, we see people getting too comfortable on the sofa of automation and efficiency. But teams are looking for those who sit in the chair, those who bring value in different ways, stay curious, keep exploring, and think beyond the immediate ask.
Let’s not let AI make us passive. Let’s use it to be even more curious, more ambitious, and more creative. 🔥
At least until “Skynet” conquers all of us…
